I work for a proprietary software company; one of the things we sell are ERPs. I think we're also either in bed with a processor, or own it (hard telling without being able to get a straight answer out of people above me on the food chain) and we are STILL not able to utilize EMV.
Anyway... What I've heard from customers, a couple times now and from different places around the country, is that they take a credit card in person from a customer. Their customer goes home, calls the credit card company and somehow gets the payment they just made voided because they (OUR customer, the store) didn't use a chip reader.
I only post this in case some of the users here are in the same boat as our customers. I hear there is a class action suit that folks in your shoes can join , but don't know the details. I didn't know but maybe TaraSmythHeartland might be able to point y'all in a direction.

A smart card resembles a credit card in size and shape, but inside it is completely different. First of all it has an inside a normal credit card is a simple piece of plastic.

What makes smart cards unique is the memory chip, which is embedded in the contact pad of the card. Without that chip, it’s just like any other regular card.

And this chip embedded contact pad is the primary thing for any transaction, but the only card itself is not enough for transactions. You can read more about this from here (https://whynotworking.com/credit-card-chip)

EMV chip cards are designed to prevent counterfeit credit card fraud, which can be a problem with traditional magnetic strip cards. Counterfeit cards have real account information stolen from victims, and the cards are often used only a few times before victims become aware and report their misuse.

These cards have a lot of issues. For example, mine couldn’t connect to Google play, when I’ve addressed to customer support in my bank they’ve said that my card doesn’t work properly and there is nothing to do. My friend recommended me to use other services that provide totally secured cards. I never heard about this kind of cards, I thought that they all are secured… A great guide became an occasionally picked web-site that was PERFECT to newbies in this topic. I’ve learned so many things from there and everything became clear. On that web-site were so many useful topics and articles. I’ve got the secured card and now I know that I’m totally secured. Allbenefits are perfect to me, for example, they’re not a traditional card, but you’ll still be able to enjoy
some of their benefits. For example, you’ll have the flexibility to make
emergency purchases, deposits, and reservations. More than that you’ll get a little more money back when you close your account what is INSANE!
So, if you have some questions about credit cards, mortgages and other bank things, my advice is to have a look on that web-site, you’ll find everything you need.

Everyone knows that a chip, microprocessor or, more precisely, payment EMV card is a modern and reliable way to access your current account. It is safer than a card with a magnetic strip and it is practically impossible to forge it.
