Hello friends!

I am new in Small business forums. I need some help. Me and my best friend are graphic designers and we want to start our own graphic design firm from home. I have a question regarding the share of profit that each of us will get from the business. Actually my partner will mostly be involved in finding clients(both online and otherwise), getting works from them and doing business dealings with them. And I will mostly be doing the actual work, that is, making the designs for the clients. So my question is how are we going to share the profit between us? Will it be fifty fifty share? Will I get more as I will be doing the hard work(designing) and my partner get less as he will be doing the soft work(hunting for work and business dealings). To be precise, how shall we divide the share? I am confused. Please help.

I would say 50/50 while you are saying you are doing the hard work your partner is too with out him or her you would have no design work to do. I would also say it is harder to get the business as you have to prove to the client that you are the right choice. Or since you are both designers why not split it you do the getting new clients one week while your friend does the graphics then switch the following week. Then you will know who has the hardest job.

We can always learn from others to work better or differently to achieve success. Whether it’s in our personal lives or in business, we can always do better. So,You have to share half of the business profit with your partner. If you still have any kind of doubt then you can take advice from good business consultants (http://www.donswiftandassociates.com/). They can provide you the points for business success.

Actually, my daughter is a graphic designer. According to what she has been relating to me. Being one focuses more on a project basis since you will deal with different clients. Maybe, she was trying to point out that you could choose whether to have a deal like a per project basis or who got the client. It could also be dividing your income ( less your expenses incurred) among yourselves. I should say that putting up a design business would likely depend on your agreements. The best way is to talk and compromise of what could be better and find ways first to establish your business.

Find yourself a 'sample' partnership agreement. Change it as you need to reflect each of your business contributions and agree upon split of monies flowing into the business, ensure BOTH of your signatures are required, for business cheques and business account. Divide the 'control' of the monies since it's 'excellent financial management' that is the backbone, of any successful business. Once you've drawn and agreed upon the document, get a lawyer to review and ensure it's legality, sign before a Notary. Keep copies for each partner and original with a lawyer. Will this cost? yes, but better to be safe, than sorry.

Hello!

Honestly, I think because you will work as a team and both of your jobs are essential, i think the first option is to divide it fifty/fifty. Although you might say that your job is doing the hard work, I think that without your partner, you will not do the hard work at all. As a designer will not be used if there are no customers. Because of that, I think it is best to divide it evenly. 50/50.

I'll go with split halfway. Why? Because without the other, you won't be able to earn. No clients, no work. Lots of clients but no one to do the work, no money.

If you spend 10 times more time for work than your friend it is not good to give him 50%. I think that best way to do is find one more designer. Sales man will find 2 orders for you and another designer and he will get 33% of order. Thus each designer will have 67% of order and sales man will get 33% of both orders. Three person will get almost the same.

Split it since you won't be able to function by your own, and same with your partner.

Decide what type of graphics designing work you are good at.
1. Develop a digital portfolio.
2. Create your profile on places like Behance
3. Register your company and create an identity for your company
4. Get some customers from within your network
5. Decide which marketing channels would you use
6. Start marketing

In my opinion, the most popular form of earnings in the 21st century is e-commerce. Personally, I, two years ago, created my own online store and began selling clothes of my own production. my business has become really popular and now my monthly income is more than $ 5,000. I think this is a good start and in the future I am going to expand my capabilities. the main secret of a successful interet store is a unique product and creative site design. This young team helped me. http://www.designgrafico.com they are real professionals and know how to translate your ideas into reality. Good luck )

Something new is always great and i'm really happy with you starting something new on your own. With design, doesn't matter if it's digital or hand-made, there are ton of ways to express yourself as a creative person. For instance, you could take a look at diamond painting (https://www.floatingstyles.com/products/diamond-painting-make-your-own-paint), or there are tons of services who makes paintings from digital photos, and i'm not mentioning crafting some fancy things for house decorating. Now you can work all by yourself through web and the better things you - the more people you have. Anyways, good luck to you!:)

Like most of the people in this thread have already mentioned, I would suggest splitting it halfway ie 50-50%. Although you are doing all the hard work, your friend is the one doing the grunt work and laying the foundation of the business for you to actually put you wonderful talent to use. As much as business development seems like an easy job, it is not. It is a long and difficult process where you have to be consistent and patient for one to actually convert a lead. Do talk about everything with your friend and business partner and document this. I would recommend drawing a partnership deed before proceeding with anything else.

I think 60/40 or 55/45. Because in starting it's very difficult to bring work but after completing the work confirmation, You need to handle the client. Client will ask many changes and all are need to complete by you. You need to satisfy the client. If client completely satisfies you can get chance good leads also.

Since you will be doing all the work you should own 51% shares. The clients are going to work with you or stick with you only if they like your work. So it makes sense for you to keep the control of the company. It also protects you from being taken advantage of in case the partnership doesn't work out. My 2 cents.

Hi,
I think that you don't have to share the tasks like one for finding clients and the other for doing the hard work because it's not difficult to find clients just register on different websites like freelancers, upwork, 99designs and you will find a lot projects. I suggest that you both do the same finding clients and designing since you are both designers and share 50/50 and it's fair. Also for doing both design you will get to have each other's opinions regarding the designs.

In my Opinion you both should share your profit in equal amount for some period of time .Both are equally important for your own work. According to both of your work each one is comparatively on the same level of responsibilities. One will find the clients and after getting client the other one will complete the work of design.... so so for now 50-50 is best option u can consider for each other.
