How do I promote my family's cafe online? We're located at a place with a very limited market, but we want to cater to people outside of this specific location.

Which is the best way to promote the business through the internet? And how do you think I could grab customers online?

Any tips will truly help. Thank you!

If you don't have an official website for your business, you can market your business using the social media tools like facebook, twitter, google+ and so on..this way you can reach out to many people as you can. consider giving away discounts too, if people see your business where they can save money, for sure they will check it out. Good luck on your business! :)

Make a facebook and twitter, from there follow all the local people you know and hopefully more people will follow the account. From there hopefully people will post praise and their good experiences from your restaurant.

As the above poster said, facebook and twitter. And physical flyer works too if you have the budget. Make sure to include a simple map on where your restaurant is located. Even better if there's a place that everyone knows nearby. Just put a "just next to the <insert building name here>" And your best food and drinks, those are important as well, list your food on the flyer. Distributed them to the housing area or hand them to people on the streets located outside your specific location.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll really look into these and analyze some new plans in order to market my family's business.

We have a Facebook and Twitter account now and people are beginning to like our page. Do you guys think Instagram is also a good place to promote?

Hmmm. . .it won't be easy. For marketing to work well online you need to know who exactly you are targeting. It's food business yes, but how will those outside of the locale get it?

If you're focussing on reaching more customers who live close-by then the other complication would be, do those people search the net first to buy something to eat? Few people do. They just pop into the nearest cafe/hotel they find. So, if I were you, I'd conduct my marketing offline.

p.s I could be wrong so take my advice with a pinch of salt.

I think you should make a site and show the menus and the prices. This way, the people will know more things about your business before entering the restaurant.

Because the over poster said, fb along with twitting. And also bodily flyer operates way too in case you have the particular price range. Always will include a easy place about in which your own cafe is. More desirable when there is a spot in which we all know regional. Just set a "just close to the particular <insert making name here>" And your best foods along with products, individuals are important as well, list the meat about the flyer. Distributed them to the particular property location as well as hands them to people about the pavement located exterior your distinct place.

As the others have mentioned, you can definitely make use of the social media for marketing purpose (Facebook and Twitter). Another trend I see that has been going on is making an Instagram page for your business. Start off by following your friends and post pictures about your food. If your product is unique, your page should have many followers in no time. Another thing I love to check about food business is their website. Do you cater to online deliveries? A website dedicated to this would be awesome.

Marketing a food business online is pretty hard. People need to taste your food in order to appreciate it, not just see it. You could advertise online but you need to get your product in their hands.

More than Facebook and Twitter, you need Yelp, Tripadvisor, and Urbanspoon. You need reviews and ratings, and people in your area will see that your food is excellent---these forms of social media are very much targeted for restaurants. Do whatever you can to encourage the customers you have to post their feelings on these sites, and you'll get residual customers from the positive feedback.

I agree with creating a basic website that has a menu and prices and maybe even specials. Include pictures of the food and be specific about ingredients used. Take a look at some other local food websites to see what they've done.

There's a local coffee shop, and I wish they would have a website with their offerings and prices. They would get more business because I would know their hours, and if I have enough change to buy a drink.

Try using weebly.com It's a free site that is very easy to use. It also scores high on google search results. Be sure to include some good content that local people would search for so they can find you. Perhaps create a testimonial page and a gallery with pictures of the crew, the food, any special events, etc.

I believe Instagram is also a good media to promote as long as you have a good number of followers. You can link it to your FB and maybe grow your Instagram followers with the use of your other social media accounts. The important thing with Instagram is you got to have really good pictures to attract connections.

Another way to promote is to invite local food bloggers in your coffee shop. A lot of new food businesses in our country is already doing this marketing technique and it seems to be a good idea if you want to have a good online presence in your niche. :)

Awesome advice. Thank you for taking the time to really think deeply in order to help me out when advertising. I will definitely check out Weebly. We do have a Facebook page that shows our menu, prices, photos and store hours, but what we are really missing are testimonials and pictures of loyal customers. I could possibly try to have my family's cafe start taking photos and getting reviews from people who come to our cafe often. We might even make a video coverage of our cafe and maybe even do some special events.

Thanks and I really appreciate your effort in helping me out. Wish me luck!

Promoting through Instagram is very popular in my country of the Philippines, my whole market, which are teenagers to young adults, practically uses Instagram! So I definitely agree that Instagram is an incredible way to advertise. We already have quite a number of followers on our Instagram account.

We've never actually tried inviting food bloggers yet! This is new advice to me. I can't believe I haven't even thought of this also. Food bloggers are common in my country as well, and many of them are known to young adults. I should really try this out. Thanks for the advice! Wish me luck.

Best way for me that I find very effective is to have a website, twitter and facebook and then have them all linked up together, if you feel ambitious, this a blog attached to your site to that is attached to twitter and facebook and install a SEO addon as that can enhance the amount of traffic you get to your site, you then just have to focus on conversions

Make a Facebook account for your business. Then you should start sending friend request to people in your area. Once you get a good amount of friends you can start posting ads. You can also ask your online friends to help you spread the word about your business.

So, I would like to say that Jkility here as provided excellent advice on how you can expand your customer base very easily and in a cost effective manner. I would like to thank the OP that he took out the time to make such a thorough post on local advertising. He has listed out some very good methods to advertise your business locally in a very easy and cost-effective manner. These methods are all you need to do in order to create an awareness about your business in your local community. But I would also like to add to the post by saying that you also need to adopt some sale promotion measures in order to attract customers.

Taru
03-27-2014, 04:22 AM
I think it may be best to just find sites or forums that specifically cater to your local area, and then either engage the participants there or buy / rent some ads on it. I also would agree with lia that sites like Groupon are great for getting your name out there, since people are generally more willing to risk their money on a new place with the promise of savings. That, and also coupon sites already have a built in audience that can usually be targeted towards your local area.

In my opinion the best way to go about doing this is to work on your sites SEO. I have seen some local companies go from no business to a booming business simply because they ranked their site at the top of the search engines. When you have a site that is ranking well, you will get a LOT more exposure to your website. Then on your website you can have social media buttons that link to your facebook and twitter page.

There have been some great answers already but saying "do Facebook and Twitter" is easier said than done. Below are a few more specific tactics you can try:

For Facebook:
- offer free wifi - when guests log into your wifi, they automatically "check-in", meaning their Facebook newsfeed will show a post saying they were at your cafe
- encourage guests to take photos of their meals and/or themselves while in the cafe, share them on FB and tag your page - reward them with a discount for their next visit
- offer FB exclusive discounts and promote them with the help of highly targeted FB ads
- run contests on Facebook; a good tool is Woobox (https://woobox.com/) (my preferred one) but there are many similar ones out there
- get your cafe visitors to like your Facebook page while in store, e.g. in return for a 5% discount on the bill

Twitter:
- offer Twitter-only specials - Customers who mention the Twitter special receive a special deal, free drink or something similar
- offer a special prize for people who follow you e.g. 'Follow @(your Twitter handle) by 5pm to be entered to win a $100 gift certificate. Please RT.'
- run something like 'Twitter Tuesdays' and publish special deals each Tuesday at the same time
- share about events happening in your city / suburb to develop relationships with other local businesses - once you've established a good relationship, ask them for cross promotions (i.e. they Tweet about you, you Tweet about them)
- use relevant and location based hashtags for each Tweet
- identify users using the same location based Tweets (e.g. city name) and Tweet to them directly

Other things:
- I'm not sure where you are based but Google for search terms like "best cafes in (your city / suburb)" - reach out to the blogs and media outlets covering this topic and ask to be included in the lists
invite food bloggers from your region to the cafe and ask them to review it
- make sure you have complete and appealing listings across all relevant local business directories to make sure people can easily find you in search engine results when they look for food & drinks options in your city / suburb. A tool you can use to manage all listings from one central platform is called Flag.io (http://flag.io/?utm_source=Small%20Business%20Forum&utm_medium=Forum_Thread_1&utm_campaign=Community) (disclaimer - I work with Flag.io)

I know this might be three years a little behind on replying, but three years have advanced to a convenient and mobile methods.
One way to get noticed especially in culinary business via online is through Google Maps, spotting your cafe location to Google. This helps customers navigate to your cafe and spread the interests near your neighborhood. You can also register through UberEats for your cafe to be an option for those using Uber. By doing so, you create an easier, convenient option for customer to order drinks and/or food from your cafe.

If you don't have your own website then you can create one and incorporate search engine optimization.
This helps your cafe be discoverable as it will show up on the top pages of search engines like Google, Bing, etc.
If, however, you find making a website a bit tricky then social media sites would do.
Optimize and engage with your cafe's facebook, twitter and instagram. I would suggest using a lot of pictures of the place, product and even menu. :)

Aside from this, you can make sure that you offer something unique that only your cafe has.
I once did a survey about cafes (though it was in the Philippines) and most of the feedback say that they would want something unique in a cafe :D
They want something that they can post in their social media which is an advantage for the business as they are doing the advertising for you :D

guys, if anyone else wants to open a restaurant business! I would be a regular customer of someone who knows the recipe brownies on my favorite recipe! I've been waiting for this for a very long time!

It's a great way to find where to eat and make a promotion for it. Me personally is a fan of Chinese Launceston (https://dynastylaunceston.com.au) that always brings something special for dinner. And that's the only place i can take my wife when she hits the "I don't know what i want" phase. Thank god they do exist :)

How do I promote my family's cafe online? We're located at a place with a very limited market, but we want to cater to people outside of this specific location.

Which is the best way to promote the business through the internet? And how do you think I could grab customers online?

Any tips will truly help. Thank you!

First of you should create website if not available for your restaurant. Website is not must but now a days if you have website then you can get more trust from users who will see your business.
Add your business to local business directory like google my business and other local business directory.
Create a page on Facebook, Linkedin and a account on Twitter. Start posting different types of cuisine with picture on regular basis .... must tag your place and restaurant in every post ... so if any one will search for related services in your area then you will get priority and you will receive attention or people.

The development and advertising of the food business is very important, I'm sure! You can have a restaurant with very tasty cuisine, but what's the use of it if no one knows about it? I am sure that high quality marketing can make cafe or restaurant really popular. For example, my favorite cafe in Australia have own site and even online store onlineshop.muzzbuzz.com (https://onlineshop.muzzbuzz.com/) . There are many products that make this place memorable

The best way is social media if you want to market your cafe for free through organic reach by creating a page for your business. The most common social media platforms that are best for marketing include facebook, twitter and instagram. In case you would like to expand your reach on social media then you can try their paid marketing which will cost you a minimum of $10. Another way is to get a website created and index it on google then use different seo techniques to market the cafe either organically or paid marketing. Hope this was helpful
