As Google's focus on getting their users only relevant results for their queries, their love for longer, more info-intensive articles is growing.

People use search engines to find information. Search engines try to find the best and if someone doesn't refine the search after clicking on a link they [the search engines] will take note of that and send you most of the 'searchers' who the same or search phrase or one closely related to it. The longer the article therefore, the more likely you'll cover all aspects of a topic making it less likely for someone to seek more information elsewhere.

So guys, if you liked writing short articles because they were faster to write you've got two options. Either forget them or forget what it felt like to getting organic traffic from search engines.

There are two sides on this article length issue. While it is true that lengthier articles are better for search engines and for information research, there is also an increasing demand for mobile compatible content. For mobile browsing, the shorter ones are becoming more favorable. Here's where the choice of target market comes into play as well as the usability of the shorter articles. Both long and short articles are becoming equally important depending on the end user's need.

I believe so, the more words that are relevant, the more the search engines can lock on to your blog or website.

Sure it's a good idea to write longer articles, because it will allow you to add as many keywords in the artice as you can as well as allow you to add in LSI keywords. But make sure to make it interesting and attractive, otherwise if a visitor comes to your site and sees a wall of text they may hit that back button.

I do not think that quantity of article is matters. If you post the quality content with the valuable information. It is better than the quantity of the article. But for the article marketing we have follow all the guidelines of the article website before posting.

Articles shouldn't be too long unless they are the "long form" articles you see on some sites. It is a happy medium that has to be found.

Long Form
Long form articles are usually ones that almost mimic articles in a magazine, since they are so long for web. They can be on many different topics, but are for niche or less general issues.

Blog Posts
Blog posts (http://www.theleadershiphub.com/blogs/management-social-media) are more of a medium to small version of long form posts. You don't want to make them either too long or too short, depending on your audience. Testing different lengths also helps too.

Forums
These are also very varied depending on who you're trying to attract. Whichever length you decide, like on this forum has to make sense for the question or response.

All of these just vary according to your audience, so length is determined by both audience and content.

More longer length articles is better I guess. Because if you post 1000 words article rather than posting 500 words article, it would be great, you can also use more keywords in 1000 words article & you can use more keywords on h2 tag on this article.

Yes, article length do plays an important role as if you write a long article including all the concepts regarding a particular topic, then no user will switch to another article for further information. This will gradually decrease the bounce rate of your site.

But if you are writing lengthy article only to build backlinks, than you will get hit by Google PBN(Private blog network) update.

The quality of the content matters, long articles should be avoided because it may be more difficult to read. An article should be less than 50KB or 500 words. If article is long it might effect the readers, you might lose them.

Article length have matter then it release and involve this in the guidelines if the off page and article posting. Their are many article website offer 500 words length of the article that are posted on their website. So means in this length a writer can explain that topic easily. Less then of this no better to explain & to understand reader that topic. So always write any article in 500 words minimum.

Article length do matter, long articles are useful to drive more traffic over the web. Whereas, small article are required to avoid the bounce rate from the users using different application like Mobile. Lengthy article takes more time to load in mobile.

And as content plays an important role in today's SEO world. It is always better to write small article with quality content.

There's lots of information on this topic and studies that show article length impacts both search ranking and share counts.

In Brian Dean's Google Ranking Factors article (http://backlinko.com/google-ranking-factors) he lists content length as one of the many factors that impact search rankings. On average, the top 3 search results are longer than the next 7.

It makes a lot of sense because more length often impacts other factors for search. Longer usually is going to mean more keywords, more keyword density, more LSI keywords to determine the topic of the page, lower bounce rates, and longer reading time. From a search algorithm standpoint, length and complexity is a proxy for measuring quality.

Similarly, article length impacts virality (see: http://blog.proven.com/virality-and-content-sharing and https://blog.kissmetrics.com/share-on-social-media/). Multiple studies have shown that longer articles tend to get shared more. This could be the result that they simply rank better in Google so they get more eyeballs, or it could be that a longer article creates a sense of more utility to a reader so they feel compelled to share it.

But it's not just about pumping out long form content, it has to be good as well.

kamlesh16
04-16-2016, 04:21 AM
Long article is loved by search engine as well user also if it is written quality content. But only saying is that log line article content is always is good is not sure. If query is satisfy in few lines then not required to write more and more for making big and meaning less content. Content should be always precise and unique.

You are absolutely correct, writing quality content is important but along with that writing lengthy content is also important. If you are wring small content and wishing your content will help you to drive traffic and to improve the ranking of your blog, than it's not going to happen. Check out any blog, which are ranking in Google there content will be long and properly interlinked.

When choosing an article for your website, make sure that it is a length that is optimal for search engine optimization efforts. Articles that are as short as 200 words, or as long as 500 words should fit into particular category. Most internet readers do not read a website page as they would a book, so the shorter the better. If this means splitting one long idea into 4 or 5 pages.

If your average article length is under 200 words, search engines will likely be more critical of the content, and the general rule of thumb is that articles of 300 words or more are less likely to put you at risk for infringing on “thin” content. According to different sources, big articles are rather popular and receive the biggest number of shares at social networks; besides, ahrefs analyzes up to 1400 keywords from each post. So just imagine how long should an article be to contain 1400 keywords, it is definitely more than 500 words. But SEO rules change every season (I would even say daily talking about ALL algorythms), so that still try to concentrate on quality of text, not quantity of words. Search engines still apprecaite original and unique content, plagiarism free and enriched with media. Plagiarism is a real plague of the Internet, but it is easily detected by special tools (greatly described here https://plagtools.com/ ).

Yes, If you are writing any technical article then it should be clear and specific to the topic. Always try to write the blog or article from the readers' point of view. Even if you are writing it long, it becomes lengthy, but proper use of images and language grab the readers attention and make interest while reading the same.

Follow Yoast SEO (wordpress) advice, you should have article with more than 300 words.
If there are too little words, customer feel no-professional and nothing to do here more.
And in my own opinion, if there are too many words ~ 2000, it will affect the readability of the article.
So, I guess it' good to keep about 400 - 1500 words.

Hi........................!
Content strategy is essentially the culture, approach and mindset that you use in order to deliver information to the places that people look for it the most. It is a strategy in which you approach content as a type of asset. The most important thing when it comes to a website’s content strategy is the quality of the content, as good content is the key to a website’s success. However, many ask: Does article length matter? The answer to this is yes, the size of the content also matters. How long you make your articles can have a huge effect on your reader. Keep in mind that the length of your articles must meet the expectations of two different aspects: the search engines and your audience.

If the article is useful and helpful, then the metrics will show the search engines that it is valuable content. Factors such as social sharing, bounce rate and backlinks will prove to Google et al that a six word “novel” might indeed be a wonderful thing.

AUDIENCE WORTHY ARTICLE
Your audience will find the value of your article the most important aspect. This means that they get something useful out of your article such as that it helps them solve a problem or teaches something they didn’t know before. Your article could also inform them on the latest news or even make them laugh. Any of these things will make your content not just a useless attempt to grab search engines’ attention.

SEARCH ENGINES
Search engines can’t read your content; this means that the value of your content is not essential to them. Instead, they deem an article worthy from other types of factors. This includes a lack of duplicate material, keywords located in the article, SEO format and the length of an article. This is one reason why article length is very important.

WHAT WORKS FOR ONE DOESN’T FOR OTHERS
Because of the huge difference in what makes an article worthy from one person to another as well as one platform to another, what works for one doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for the other. Although you may be able to write all the information you need to in a few sentences, and it might make you quite popular with your audience, it won’t do the same for search engines such as Google, who will expect more content.

HOLDING THE ATTENTION SPAN
Another very important aspect that affects the length that your content should be is the attention span of those who read it. It has been noted in the press in recent months that the attention span of general readers has dropped to an all time low due to the immediate gratification of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter (who only allows 240 characters or less), where you can only find content that is quite short and gets to the point right away. However, this doesn’t mean that an article can’t be lengthy, as there will always be readers who are willing to read a long article if it has value.

The bottom line then is there is no ideal article length. Or there might be, it depends on which study you wish to put faith in. You may feel differently about this, but my take away from the research, plus my gut instinct say this: Write for your audience not the search engines.

Hello,

Actually, it's matter. each coin has two sides. if you are going to saw as search engine point of view than your content must have to be fresh, new, not spamming and it must have to be useful and informative for users.

Many Readers think that a long article is useful rather than a short article.

so if you looking for writing an article you have to write it into 650 to 950 words so it will find important as per search engine and user both point of view.

I have an article with 400 words ranking better than a competitors which has 3500 and i have an article which has 4000 words which beats an article with 2000 words.

What do you think is the reason? its the quality of the article, right placement of the keywords and the Headings which make the article a success. Formatting your article correctly is something you need to do and is more important these days than ever. Use bullet points where you can and bold keywords. Dont overdo anything. Keep it natural yet, search friendly

If you post a Readers digest quality article (which is Above average in most cases ) you still wouldnt fare too well on search , even if you have a good 2000 or 3000 words. Those are articles written for print, not optimized for search.

Its not the words that you count. Its how the words are placed. Its what words you place and where you place them.

So, Dont worry about the number of words. Worry about writing captivating content with the right placement of words in the right places. Format your content for ease of reading and navigation. Try to bold the important points, get bullet points in place for a quick run. Link relevant content to each other… the list is never ending … but one thing is final… Stop counting the words. Let the words flow my friend.

Article length id depends upon your targeted audience. If the purpose of your article is to provide guidance about specific theory then your article should be extended. But you target Mobile users then your content would be concise so your audience does not get bored and they find their information from that blog.

I think the number of words written should not be as important as the quality of the words written. I believe content should be presented in a meaningful, engaging way. Have lots of visual images, infographics, and videos as support for the text. Even the text should be written in an attractive way by using subheaders, bold text etc.

I would say that article length is definitely matter especially in SEO. I prefer keeping my articles a little on the long side because I like to be thorough and informative to the users. Sometimes I might not do such a great job, but other times I hit the mark. The way I see it is that if you are willing to read past the title then you must be looking for a solid explanation of what I am talking about. That usually takes more than a couple hundred words to accomplish. So, I am going to write as much as I need to in order to make a point. I don’t hesitate to make the articles longer and neither should you. ;)

The main way you can get more perusers, they state, is to compose posts that are quick and painless.

MerleneNMS

In blogging, article length does not really matter but article quality does.

Sometimes, writers tend to think that a longer article is better that shorter ones. But that is not really the case. Writers must always avoid ending up with a long boring article bombarded with unnecessary inputs and thoughts. It is a usual situation where writers get too affected by the topic that they forget the real topic itself.

Blogs are read because of its content. Before anything else, writers must make sure that the content that the readers want is present before thinking about length. But also, too short articles may miss the chance of tackling all necessary parts. Therefore, it is always about writing the proper quality article in the proper length.

Ideally, good content is mapped out before it is even created. It should connect the goals of your website/business and the content you are publishing with the goals of the users looking for it.
Your content can take many forms, and it can be discovered and consumed in numerous ways.
It shouldn’t be your goal to write 2,000 words on a blog post because that seems like the “perfect length” to rank well in organic search.
If you’re worried about hitting an ideal blog post length for SEO, then you’re missing the point entirely.
Your goal should be to supply the best, most useful (and optimized) version of content for your target audience that matches their intent.
Your audience will appreciate it – and your website analytics will reflect that.

Quality Over Quantity: Don't Focus on Article Length

Such a large number of individuals put a lot of an accentuation on the normal word length for articles and the misconstrued significance of having in excess of a specific number of words on each page to rank well. ... Give clients what they need paying little heed to what number of words it takes to state it.

Yes it sure does!

The longest article on my website is also the one with the most webtraffic. There is a website that lets you type in your keyword term & it tells you what size article you should write in order to compete with top ranking pages for that term.

Here's my article (it shows lots of h title tags & related keyword terms)

Sure it's a good idea to write longer articles, because it will allow you to add as many keywords in the artice as you can as well as allow you to add in LSI keywords. But make sure to make it interesting and attractive, otherwise if a visitor comes to your site and sees a wall of text they may hit that back button.
