Was wondering if someone could clarify a situation for me. I financed an 18-wheeler and begin making payments in Apr 05. My payments were to be $1115, but I sent in $1200 each month. My most recent statement shows a minimum payment of $932. Out of curiosity I called to see if the extra I had sent, with the instructions "apply extra to principle", went to principal. I was informed that it does not go to principal, but credited towards next months payment. The CSR said that it isn't normal for them to apply extra payment towards the principal since it is a fixed interest loan.

Does this sound right? I know the extra I pay towards my mortgage goes to paying down the principal, just thought that was the way things were done.

Appreciate any help/assistance.

hey DoubleA,

I know that i am replying to your post pretty late, but i wanted to add my input. With fixed rates, there is no direct principle to pay off. the way it works is that you have steady payments. you are able to payoff your loan sooner, however there is no benifit. if you are supposed to pay back a total of $65,000 then all of your payments will add up to $65,000. paying additional funds in advance will either be credited to the next months payments or be taking off from the end of the payment due dates.

Agreed adamwayne1
Typical ABL loan for equipment is 50-70% of the liquidation value of the assets. Although perceived as a higher risk transaction these loans are easier to obtain for a company with a limited credit history.
