Hi,

Been doing a bit of Tv advertising for our new website on ITV, quite costly, but quite frankly isnt really giving us the volume we require to stay afloat.

I'm aware that there are many ways to advertise on the net, apart from those like google, yahoo can anybody give me any further hints as to low cost forms of advertising?

The product we sell is of great quality, and there really is no catch to buying specs on the internet as long as you havent got a really obscure prescription, I just need to get this message to the millions!!!!!

First I will refer you to my post in another section as I covered this topic there,

http://www.smallbusinessforums.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=29

My feeling on banner exchanges is they rarely work, I understand that you just started your site and want instant visitors but honestly it is not going to happen.

I requires alot of hard work, constant optimization.

Though I have seen some great salesmen out there that can sell a site that has 0 visibility simply by visiting a business, that personal approach is sometimes all it takes!

If you are not a salesperson though I can tell you this ads in the local paper, radio, television are pretty much a waste of time.

You can pay for GOOGLE adwords as an alternative but that never worked for me, though it might work for you!

Good Luck

Hi all,

I've been using Google AdWords and have been fairly happy. I like the options and opportunity, and the general volume results, but have not been happy about the general quality of those results (i.e. - the type of people I get are too often those just looking to exploit or sell). None of that is Google's fault, so I am happy with their service. I have to keep tweaking and optimizing, as ohioadman indicated.

4seeing,
It really depends on what service or product you are selling. For example: if you are selling patio furniture you can bring in sales today by simply posting free ads in the correct directories where buyers are looking, AKA Target Marketing. However, if you are in Real Estate you will have to go down a little different path.

Out of curiosity have you done anything to make your website 'sticky'

Have you profiled your target market?

Do your potential customers fit into a niche? Or is there something that's common to all?

If so, you may find it works to advertise within websites that also cater to your target audience.

An example which comes to mind is how The Food Network in general caters to food lovers, but individual shows divide the market into segments. I was watching a BBQ show last night, aimed at a male audience, a perfect setting for selling BBQ products, hardware, etc. to consumers.

I would advertise on Google. If you register your company, you get a coupon of $75 (or at least I got one) which you can use to advertise on Google.
You can really target your advertisements to specific people or locations so this is an excellent to boost sales and get local people to your business.

There are several places online that will allow people to advertise free. Ebay has a free classified ad and using free directories like Manta is really good for business. There are a lot of free ways to get the word out. I am not sure if you are into blogging but I blog a little and am noticing that without even looking for myself in the search engines that I will run into a few of my blogs here and there. They are search engine friendly and the best thing of all is that they are free unless you are gonna purchase your own domain name and a new template.

Social Media would definitely be the way to go. It is free for the most part and pretty easy to do once you have spent time doing the initial start up procedure. Facebook is great for posting updates about your business. Whether it be new products or community involvement, post it on Facebook. Use twitter as a quick way to chat with customers and offer live support. Blogging, though not as popular now a days, is great for introducing new products and information about your company.

Hi Chris,

I think it depends on where your customers are "hanging out". Do you think they are on social media? Do you think they are using Google? Based on their buying history, their age, other demographics...was not sure if perhaps you had any inkling.

We primarily use Google Adwords and Facebook Ads. I like these avenues because:

1) You can control the costs - no surprises
2) It is relatively inexpensive
3) You can target specific demographics (especially with FB) - so I can target women, ages 25-35, who live in NJ or NY, who have indicated they have an interest in yoga and pilates (for example).

If you ever have any social media questions, feel free to reach out to me...we love to help other small business owners! We're also hosting a free webinar in a few weeks and have a bunch of free social media tools for all registrants if you are interested: http://bit.ly/1jYqWJA.

You might want to check out Blackhatworld.com. They have a lot of sellers on that site that you can buy some cheap advertising from. They also have a lot of money making methods there. If you need to know anything about internet marketing you'll find it there. You can also go to Fiverr.com and get some cheap advertising there. Just make sure that you look at the seller's rating. There are lot of good ones but once and I while you might encounter a scammer so be careful.

I still think that highly targeted SEO works best but you have to be very careful not to go the black hat route or that will ruin you quickly. Taking time to do things like writing articles, trading links and getting involved in social media are really going to be a big help. Of course, a lot of people would like to hear that there's a shortcut here but, unfortunately, there's not.

If you don't have a presence in google and can't wait for that to happen. Then google adwords and other PPC sites can help or rent an email list.

Word of mouth is a great advertising method and can work on the internet too. If you have a lot of friends on the internet, then it only takes 2-3 good friends of yours to tell 2-3 of their good friends about your website, and you can see how the word of mouth method can spiral.

Best of all, it's a completely free method and costs you nothing apart from your time. :)

In addition to that:

1. Apart from Craiglist, there are many free classified sites on the net. Find all these sites, make a list of the sites and post an ad on each of them. This guarantees that even if you don't make a sell, you at least get brand exposure. If someone sees your product elsewhere they'll more likely be mildly interested in it because they've heard of it before.

2. Do some SEO. Most online marketers make money because they sit at the top of the SERPs. Depending on the product you're selling, concentrating on trying to get your customers primarily from search engine traffic could well do the job for you because you don't spend a penny for this traffic.

3. Jump into the trenches. If you can write then start writing articles and post them all over the net. Link back to your site and hope for the best. At the very least, you'll get backlinks which determine how you get ranked by the search engines or at best someone will land on your sales page and buy your product.

4. Make videos about your product and post in different video-hosting sites. Start with youtube and start a campaign to get lots of views. Your social networks could help you out with this. Your primary goal here is to get traffic from youtube to your site.

5. Take it a step further. . .build an email list [you can use incentives like some free product to have someone give you their e-mail address] and market to them.

And there's more. . .

I would second this. Sites specially LinkedIn, reddit and twitter are helping many websites gain and reach to their target audience. And also as these are almost free (unless like on facebook where you have options to create paid advertisements) they are more potential and fruitful. The only trick is to identify and connect to your target audience on these social media sites.

I would say Google Adwords is a pretty low cost and effective way to go. However, my favorite is social media, especially Facebook. Pinterest and other social bookmarking sites are getting a lot more popular these days. The only thing about Pinterest is it's mainly middle aged women who go on there the most, it could be a benefit to you depending on what you're marketing, and then again it might not. If you want to get some free traffic and have a lot of time on your hands you could write a bunch of articles or blog posts linking to your site. SEO is always the best way to get cost free traffic, just do your research and keep that coffee on!

If you are looking for low-cost methods to market your business on the internet, I would recommend you to try out SEO, which is Search Engine Optimization. In this method, you try to generate keywords for your business in order to get a higher ranking on the search engine indexes. You do this with the help of free software which you can easily download off of the internet. Another method which you can use is posting on websites like Craigslist, etc which are websites for internet classifieds.

Clever use of Twitter can help you reach thousands to millions of people daily. The beauty of it is the people viewing your content are the most likely to have an interest in it. People follow others with similar tastes, preferences, etc. Retweets or mentions tend to reach the right people automatically.

I would publicize upon Yahoo and google. When you enroll your business, you get some sort of discount regarding $75 (or a minimum of I obtained one) used advertising upon Yahoo and google.
You can genuinely target the advertising to certain men and women as well as areas and this is a superb to enhance gross sales and obtain residents for your small business.

I find that forum posting on forums relating to your business can be a very good way of promoting your business as it is targeting people who are looking for products like yours. I also use social media like twitter, if you are able to get a lot of followers and use it correctly, for example using hashtags then you can get quite a good amount of customers easily.

The best advice that I can give to someone who's looking for a free or cheap way to advertise online is to utilize some social networking sites. Facebook can get your business very far in terms of awareness and Twitter can retain customers and also keep your customers updated.

Instagram is also a great way to advertise your business, especially if you have a retail business. Another way to promote online is to do so through famous blogs. Negotiate with them. For example, you could give them a discount if they can promote your business on their blog. It's as simple as that.

Good luck!

Google Adsense is a good way to optimize revenue if you don't have a proper grasp on internet marketing. If you know which demographics you'd like to target and what strategy you want to employ, you might be better off contacting advertisers directly. Low-cost advertising means guerilla marketing which won't generate the type of traffic or interest you're looking for.

There are several spots on-line that could allow visitors to promote free. Auction web sites carries a free labeled advert along with applying free internet directories just like Manta is actually beneficial to business. There are plenty involving free ways to get the saying out. We are undecided if you are in blogging although My partner and i web site a bit along with was noticing that will with no also looking for myself within google that i will encounter some of the weblogs occasionally. They may be search results warm and friendly along with the good thing of most is actually free if you don't are generally about to purchase your website name and a brand-new design.

You'll be able to really goal the commercials to be able to distinct persons or spots so this is a superb to enhance gross sales and have residents to your organization.

Well Facebook is very popular and almost everyone has an account. You can use means and strategies to get in contact with them, by the way, Facebook allows the friends of those that connect with you to have access to your ad as well so it is quite super.

Paid traffic exchange seems also the way to go. It is good to use it if your site is still new and you want fast traffic towards it. After you see that it has picked u the numbers, then you can leave it to organic traffic. You can also use social media accounts which I know they are free to use no payments whatsoever.

Any business can get a massive amount of exposure by using online classifieds such as Craigslist. You can place free ads for your business online everyday and targeted people will stumble upon them.

I'm not sure what type of business you run, but if you are promoting a bricks and mortar company, you should be taking advantage of the search engines’ local business listings. This will place your website on the front page with similar local services when someone does a search within your operating area. This can be a great way to get a fledgling business in front of the eyes of thousands of potential customers.

I agree, but it depends on what site you use. Facebook, and Twitter are banning people for requesting too many friends. It is a struggle not get banned, and even when you don't the results are minimal.

Hi Blaze, I would like to agree with you, however, Facebook is about numbers and interest. I have about 3 pages with different topics, joined about 10 to 15 other pages related to mine. The bottom line is that it takes time to get the real crowd to your page. You have a pretty good chance with Blogging but you need to have patience and you need to go out and advertise vigorously. If you have the funds, be careful how you are going to invest it because the Internet is full of dark alleys. I guess starting off with a blog, not selling anything and linking it to your Google+ profile will put you in good stead. You may even start your own business page on G+...

Advertising is pretty tough, I wish I could get on TV! I thought that is a sure way to get fast results but since I have a limited budget, I found this service that quickly connects businesses and their products or services with social influencers and the cool thing is since I have a limited budget I can set it. There is a minimum of $35 to get started and the entire $35 goes directly to the social ambassadors that use the service. So that makes my marketing dollars go way farther. The service is called PalmPons and I didnt see any other individuals post that so if you are looking for affordable advertising with that word of mouth aspect its worth a shot in my opinion.

Cheers!

Traffic strategies:

THE BIGGEST TIP I CAN GIVE YOU: USE -> https://www.nextmark.com/

They have huge amount of email lists that you can tap into, lazer targeted and they have people looking for your service.

The 3x Types of Traffic

‘Traffic You Control’: This is the traffic you pay for through ads on Instagram, Facebook, Google and so on.

‘Traffic You Don’t Control’: This is the traffic that comes from Blogs, Social Media when someone mentioned or shared your link with others. It's free traffic but you have no control over it.

‘Traffic You Own’: This is your mail list. All the emails you have collected along the way via lead magnet, subscribers, followers etc.

If you are just advertising, paying for traffic and not collecting emails you will never actually own your traffic.

Paid traffic might be profitable in the beginning but in the long run, it will cost you a lot of money. The traffic you own becomes your long term solution:
* You can have a mail list that you can send promotions and sell your services and products
* You can use this mail list to acquire a lookalike audience on Facebook
* You can re-target to the people you already marketed to
* Once you own the traffic, it's free for you to advertise to them

A lead magnet with free demo is an easy way to collect emails so you can convert ANY traffic into the traffic you own.

Simple concept, but super powerful! Any questions? I can give you a free consultation and a blueprint model to follow

Yeah. I think I got something close to perfect answer for you. Instead of advertising on TV, If you are willing to spend money on advertising, you would be way better off, advertising on YouTube.

YouTube is way better than TV when it comes to advertising because while TV just sends your adverts to the general public, YouTube sends your adverts to just only targeted users. Users are shown relevant adverts depending on what type of video they watched (the niche). So you are more likely to get more traffic returns in your advertising with youtube than you can do on TV.

More over, on most people view YouTube more while surfing the net so your website is just a click a way. While people mostly watch TV in normal TV flatscreen on the living room. You know what I mean so they will need to get their phone or pc, remember your website name and navigate there to actually view your website. You get the gist?

In fact you can also do this manually by searching for yourself for a YouTube channel with millions or at least hundreds of thousands of subscribers and daily / monthly views that deals on your topic. Then pay him to make a special review video of your website or product and ask him to put a call to action in the video and link in the description box telling his viewers to click on the link.

Honestly this works so well because the subscribers and viewers have a lot of trust and like for the youtube guy that's why they are subscribed. So they are more likely to take the call for action.

You also have a chance of inspecting the video before it is put out there and ensure that you are satisfied with it.

Now if you don't have funds and you are looking for free method, YouTube is still a great choice but in this case, you have to start a channel for your website, you own youtube channel, then grow it .

I hope I offered some value.

Advertising can be free or incredibly inexpensive. I'll list the easiest ways I know by media. A brick and mortar business will always benefit from you talking passionately about your business to others in person or on social media. Just talking about how happy you are that you are doing something you love will generate an opportunity to share what you do with others. That in it's own can generate sales. If you own a business, you should do this anyways. If you do not do this, ask yourself if you're proud of what you do. If you answer no, then the issue isn't advertising.

Online stores can benefit from taste makers. Pages on social media that everyone joins to see interesting new stuff in their feed. There are taste makers for every niche. If you have social media, you should have a few of these in your feed already. Often times, they will blog or feature your video (small local news groups and friends can help here) if you pay them a little or send them a sample to review. You can also start your own page but new content generation and sharing is a job in and of itself and can cost a lot to do well.

I mention these because 1) direct advertisement just isn't as effective any more, and 2) these put you and your company in a light that makes you seem passionate, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.

The Internet offers a variety of low-cost advertising options for small businesses that want to reach customers outside of a localized area. Online classified ad websites such as Craigslist and Oodle let businesses post ads for services and sale items. Listings are often free. Social media sites let businesses connect with customers and keep them updated about new products and services at limited cost

There are tons of cheap and free methods to advertise your product but It depends on your potential audience and on your service or product itself.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways is on Facebook groups: search for a niche group and make a post/comment about your experience with your product and his strong points, without obviously being spammy.

If you have a blog or a niche website, write articles with questions and arguments that are not competitive on the Google search engine. With this method you can reach tons of people even if you have a very small site because you know, there no competition! One way to discover these questions and all this kind of stuff is on this website: that free visual keyword research & content ideas tool

However, it's all about social media. They're the key, join on the niche of the product and connect directly with your potential costumers!

It really depends on what service or product you are selling. For example: if you are selling patio furniture you can bring in sales today by simply posting free ads in the correct directories where buyers are looking, AKA Target Marketing. However, if you are in Real Estate you will have to go down a little different path.

The best way to advertise with low cost or no cost is through social media like FB. The minimum cost for FB is $10 where your company can get great reach, likes and most probably sales. Another way is through off page SEO which would not only help promote your company online but get you huge online traffic. I recently helped a company that were in the biotech consulting firms (https://www.nieuwamsterdamadvisors.com/industries/biotechnology/) industry which was difficult to advertise but with the help of low cost advertising I was not only able to promote their company but get the sales they needed. Digital marketing is the future for branding and advertising.
