Hi,
Im registered to pay tax/vat in Finland and was wondering if anyone knows if i can claim vat back from goods bought from the UK into Finland?
Both being part of the EU, but having different vat rates.

I'm not sure about UK ===> Finland, but the other way around: we either have to charge the customer VAT to our EU customers (non UK), or obtain a valid VAT number from them.

Buying from the EU from here, it is the same: we either pay VAT (at their rate) or provide our UK VAT number.

I would guess the principle is the same in Finland, but can't confirm.

So are you saying that if i gave my vat number to the UK supplier i get my goods vat free?
These goods are mainly tools/equipment and not stuff thats being sold on.

That is certainly how we operate when we sell to mainland Europe. Customers who specify their full VAT number on purchase do not have to pay the VAT. Their VAT number is subsequently submitted here in our tax returns, to account for the non-VAT collection.
