    Transferring a Sole Proprietorship
I currently have a sole proprietorship (small handmade business) in Florida and will potentially be moving to North Carolina this summer. What steps should I take to move my business? Do I terminate it completely in FL and start over in NC? Or are there things I can simply transfer?

Business assets and liabilities of a sole proprietorship are personally owned by the sole proprietor, not by a separate business entity. The sole proprietor can transfer her business by selling its tangible and intangible assets; thereby, transferring the responsibility of running the business to a new owner.

Legally they are the same. Since the sole proprietor owns all assets of the business, he is free to sell them. The sale of a sole proprietorship is simply the sale of its assets. There are no registration requirements to transfer the business; however, some legal aspects of the transfer deserve consideration.
