Avoid Moneris if you can help it
Moneris is one of the biggest credit card payment processing systems and also one of the most expensive to maintain. Their policies for renewal and cancellation can be a nightmare for a web developer, let alone the average Joe and Jane. One of our clients was new to the whole online e-commerce idea and had window shopped around online for a service. They were eventually contacted by a sales representative of Moneris a few years ago and for years, had paid out of their nose and ears with their high monthly costs. They also have archaic cancellation policies that can only be cancelled during a short period of time and only during certain hours of the day can the specific department be contacted.

If you can avoid them, please do. With that said, do you have suggestions besides Paypal that is similar to Moneris which future e-commerce companies can use?

Thanks for the info re. Moneris ... I'll remember that if/when I decide to build an online eCommerce site.

Check-out this site, http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/248...-services.html, it gives you their top picks for credit card processing companies. Their top 3 are Flagship Merchant Service, CreditCardProcessing.com, and Leaders Merchant Services.

    Hope the info helps!

There is a few and it depend where you are in the world. THe biggest difference between Paypal and Moneris:

Paypal (Square, Stripe etc) are aggregators - They posses 1 merchant account for all businesses. Pros: Quick to sign up, quick to get started, quick to process transactions. Cons: High cost / transaction, high fees in general, slow bank deposits (weeks often), typically do not fight to protect merchant when it comes to chargebacks, frequent account closures with lack of reasoning due to responsive stance.

Moneris (Helcim, Payfirma etc) are merchant account providers - They offer each business a unique merchant account. Pros: Cheaper to maintain, work in favour of merchant on chargebacks and account issues, quick bank deposts (day(s)), more flexibility. Cons: Longer to set up (application process).

If you are in Canada or the US try Helcim out, we have a great reputation for transparency and honest pricing - It's a habit of disclosing everything publicly and offer cost+ pricing so you're never encountering any surprises... Also, a great developer gateway API and hybrid POS integration.

Here's a few good places to find reviews of merchant account / services:

MasterCard and Visa, alongside American Express and Discover® Cards, are presently acknowledged by a huge number of shippers overall . ... American Express and Discover, while not banks, are additionally called card backers . Installment cards incorporate both Mastercards and charge cards .

What captured my attention is that it is one of the most expensive to maintain. It is something we all have to consider before choosing it. - Paul Savramis
