Paypal (Square, Stripe etc) are aggregators - They posses 1 merchant account for all businesses. Pros: Quick to sign up, quick to get started, quick to process transactions. Cons: High cost / transaction, high fees in general, slow bank deposits (weeks often), typically do not fight to protect merchant when it comes to chargebacks, frequent account closures with lack of reasoning due to responsive stance.

Moneris (Helcim, Payfirma etc) are merchant account providers - They offer each business a unique merchant account. Pros: Cheaper to maintain, work in favour of merchant on chargebacks and account issues, quick bank deposts (day(s)), more flexibility. Cons: Longer to set up (application process).
