You can't expect to simply write more content and get all the good stuff — higher ranking, more backlinks, increased social sharing, and enhanced social engagement. Instead, you need to write better content. “Better” content is typically longer, yes. But it's more than just length.

If your average article length is under 200 words, search engines will likely be more critical of the content, and the general rule of thumb is that articles of 300 words or more are less likely to put you at risk for infringing on “thin” content.

According to my experience, Lengthy article not only ranks high in google but also ranks for many keywords.

Suppose there are two articles which are written about "Prescription sunglasses". Now just think for a moment, One person writes about prescription sunglasses only I mean he defines Prescription glasses in his article.
There is another person who writes about prescription sunglasses also but he also writes the pros and cons of prescription sunglasses in His article.
So the first article would rank for the keyword "prescription sunglasses" But the second article would rank for 2 keywords one "prescription sunglasses" and the other "pros and cons of prescription sunglasses".
In fact, the second one would get more traffic than the first one.

    Now, what you should do?
First of all, do Keyword Research and try to cover all the related topic in a single article. By doing so your article would rank high in google and rank on many other keywords as well.
