One of the most fundamentally misunderstood marketing axioms is: Ask your customers what they want.

Henry Ford famously quipped that if he had asked customers what they wanted, they would have said, “a faster horse.”

Steve Jobs is quoted “You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.”

What these famous quotes belie is that by asking your customers what they want you should be getting a deep understanding of WHY they want it. Addressing the reasons why people want what they want is a playing field where you can be truly be unique, creative and disruptive as both Ford and Jobs did.

This is the most amazing & worth sharing marketing strategy.

OLA cabs is an Indian cab hailing app and the biggest competitor of Uber. Its like an INDIAN UBER.

So what they did when CHENNAI floods happened is just beyond the imagination and the hardwork they have put in to help people in such am epidemic situation.

    So they did this....

In a display of startup resourcefulness, India’s leading cab-hailing app startup and Uber rival, Ola, launched a ferry rescue service in the rain-hit and water-logged coastal city of Chennai in southern India where neighborhoods have been partially submerged after multiple days of heavy rains. Both Uber and Ola had come under public fire in Chennai after their cabs disappeared from the streets.

In many parts of the world, taxi-summoning apps typically deploy what is called “surge pricing”, raising rates to meet spiking demand, even in times of distress. In fact, Uber had come under severe criticism for employing surge pricing as anxious users tried to summon cabs during a hostage siege in Sydney last year.

Torrential rains have battered Chennai for over 10 days, flooding many parts of the city as well as the neighboring coastal towns. Chennai, India’s fifth largest city by population, is the country’s automotive hub and car makers like Ford, BMW, Daimler and Renault-Nissan have assembly and manufacturing units there. Authorities said rain-related accidents had caused 59 deaths so far in the city.

But in what could serve as a branding coup, Ola introduced its ferry rescue service on Tuesday. Ola’s boats with professional rowers are deployed to help those stranded in the water logged areas and to deliver essentials like food and water, the startup said. The boats are being deployed based on information provided by fire and rescue forces. Each boat can ferry between five to nine people per trip.
